Leather

So much depends on the quality of leather, of course. We use only the finest tanned top grade cattle hides from top British and European tanners. All our upholstery covers are hand cut to templates from full hides. It's the only way to achieve a uniform quality and finish. All leathers used by Saxon have been produced to the relevant European production standards for upholstery leathers.

Leather Finishes

Here you have three options; plain matt, plain shiny and antique. The plain finishes offer a single solid colour which are normally chosen for the more contemporary styles. Our Antique finish enhances buttoned furniture with the patina of a genuine, well preserved antique.

To achieve the antique effect, the tannery dyes the leather the desired colour and then stains the top surface with a dark floranteak.

The furniture is upholstered in the traditional way and then using a special solvent supplied by the tanners, the top layer of floranteak is gently removed by hand, gradually highlighting the raised areas, but leaving the buttoned areas dark. The final stage is the application of a special sealant which enhances the natural lustre of the leather-Saxon's skill and know-how at its best.
